The annual Light Up the night event this past weekend in St. John was a big success.
Hundreds of people gathered in the park to raise awareness and funds for the St. John Cancer Fund, which provides critical funds to support residents battling cancer.
The event started with a parade, with the fire department making the inaugural lap, along with Moko Jumbies.
The community the walked the park for hours to to raise awareness and funds for St. John residents affected by cancer, “We’re raising funds, raising awareness, raising the spirit of people fighting against cancer. The Love City St John’s Light Up the Night 2020 is all about raising money to help those that are fighting against cancer,” said Adonis Morton, founding member of the St. John Cancer Fund. “The St. John Cancer fund was formed about 7 years ago, this is our 7th annual fundraiser, we do this every year and this is our big fundraiser for the year. We have a lot of little pocket fundraisers in this community, all raising money to help those fighting against cancer and we do it all at administrative cost, it’s all volunteer,” Morton continued.
It was a night of celebration, but also somber remembrance. The luminary service honored those who have passed, featuring the names and faces of locals who lost their battle with cancer.
It was a beautiful evening to recognize their hard fought fights, and vowing to help those in St. John now battling cancer, to become survivors.
