ST. THOMAS, USVI – Virgin Islands Department of Education Commissioner Racquel Berry-Benjamin officially announced today that all public schools will remain closed through April 30.
The move is in line with the extension of Governor Albert Bryan’s stay-at-home order, which remains in effect through April 30, in order to slow the local spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
In a series of radio appearances on April 6, Berry-Benjamin further informed students that they are required to snap photos of their completed assignment packets and submit those photos to their teachers on or before April 24. She said this is the most practical way to minimize spread of the coronavirus by having students submit electronic copies of their work and not hardcopies.
A final update on the status of schools for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, which is expected to end on June 4, will be issued later this month.
