WASHINGTON, D.C. – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet with President Trump this week in Washington. Their meeting comes at a time where reports claim the pair’s relationship has been strained over the Iran war.
Netanayhu has not been to the White House since the war with Iran began in late February. Reports claim that the pair still have a close working relationship but when asked aboard Air Force One on Monday if he and Netanyahu are aligned on this war, Trump replied “pretty close, a little difference”.
The President didn’t dive too much into that question ahead of their meeting this week but he did freely speak about the diplomatic effort between the US and Iran. Trump said the us halted strikes on Iran at the regime’s request to allow for peace talks.
“Iran took a beating over the last 14 days, and they asked us very nicely, please stop, let’s meet,” Trump said on Air Force One on Monday. “And that’s where we are right now. We’ll see what happens. If we don’t make a deal, we go back to the same thing.”
Iran’s foreign ministry said there are no current negotiations with the US.
