Low turnout for this past weekend’s special election.
The vote was meant to decide whether the VI would be dividing the two separate legislative districts into five.
But with the low numbers, the reapportionment initiative by the St. Croix Government Retirees was a “no-go.”
There were just under 2,000 voters in St. Croix and just under 900 voters in St. Thomas/ St. John.
Here’s what some voters said to USVI NEWS on Saturday at Lockhart Elementary.
“Well if you don’t vote then you don’t have a say in what’s happening on your island. So I think it is very important either voting yes or no just so you have some kind of say in what is going to happen,” Carol Tuohy a voter from St. Thomas said.
“This whole thing is a great idea but I will say that I don’t think the way that they’re doing it is good,” Martin Tuohy added.
There was a total of 2709 voters in both districts.
