We’re learning the name of the man found in St. John over 5 weeks ago.
His parents flew down to identify his body and are leaving with a sad realization.
Parents told USVI NEWS his name was Andrew James Dott, but his friends and family called him “Jamie.”
He had just moved to St. John in January.
His parents describe the 49-year-old as a hard worker and that he was never late for work.
That was until the day he washed up in the National Park Visitors Center in St. John and police found his lifeless body.
Jamie’s parents heard about the body that was found from a news report.
Jamies’ father Andrew said he had a bad feeling right around the time the first news article came out online about it.
He called the morgue in St. John and realized it was his son.
Andrew his father and Jamie’s step mom flew down just this week to confirm in person.
USVI NEWS spoke with them as they returned home.
“He was a carpenter, a master carpenter. I’m sorry I am having a hard time right now. He was a very loving caring person to me and my wife. He always looked after his dad and we loved him very much,” Andrew Dott said.
The Dott’s said they still have so many unanswered questions.
They added that Jamie was camping on St. John and was saving up for his down payment for a home.
They said he was carrying that money with him on the night he disappeared and they told USVI NEWS he was found with his pockets turned out and empty.
They wait for answers as they continue to cope with this news.
