All five people on board were killed in a helicopter crash in Botany Bay, St. Thomas Monday.
The time of the crash has not been confirmed, but U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department said on Twitter it was investigating what it then called a “possible” crash around 1:44 p.m.
About two laters hour, police posted the wreckage was located and said it had become a NTSB investigation.
The terrain made it difficult for first responders to access the crash site, according to a statement released on behalf of the 34th Legislature of the Virgin Islands.
“May the departed rest in peace, and may the families and friends be comforted and granted solace,” said Senate President Donna Frett-Gregory. “May those who responded to the scene be given the strength needed to process what was faced and may our community lift them all in collective prayer.”
Country musician Kenny Chesney said his friend Maria Rodriguez was among the victims in the crash, according to a post to his Facebook page:
