Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett took a break from politics, to help feed the community in St. Croix.
This week, Plaskett, with the help of local chefs at Cibone Restaurant, are distributing deliciously cooked meals to those in need on the island.
The effort is all thanks to donations from actress Naturi Naughton, of the TV series “Power.”
Naughton’s family is from St. Croix, and she came up with this idea, to help her community.
They’re handing out 100 meals a day for the entire week, to help ease the burden brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic, “I know that they (Cibone) even have local fish that they procured from our local fisherman. So this is an all around a give back of the entire supply chain of food in the Virgin Islands, from our farmers and fishermen, we have a local taxi cab driver who’s going to be putting this out. And I’m just really grateful to all of them, for her (Naugthon’s) funding and her love for her home, as well as this restaurant and the others who cook these meals with love, it looks beautiful and we’re going to be giving to people throughout the week. I just think this is just an amazing way that Virgin Islanders always continue to show that in the worst of times, the best of us come out to be able to give back to each and everyone in the Virgin Islands, so I’m just really excited to be a part of this.,” said Plaskett.
In addition to the free meals, Naughton has also donated money to four different food banks on St. Croix.
