WASHINGTON, D.C. – Time is running out for congressional members to fund the Department of Homeland Security. Members have until the end of the week to move forward with funding. Democrats are still demanding additional reforms for ICE.
We’re hearing reports that Democrats sent Republicans a draft legislation that would codify immigration reforms, which include limits on masking by federal agents and new judicial warrant requirements.
These changes stem from the immigration operations in Minneapolis after two residents were shot and killed by federal agents. The House originally passed DHS funding with some changes to ICE, which includes body cameras for agents as one example.
There’s a chance members might be forced to do another interim spending bill for Homeland Security to avoid a shutdown.
