Latest as of 5:30 p.m. Tuesday
Currently, tropical storm Karen is approximately 70 miles West Northwest of St. Croix.
The storm’s maximum recorded winds are currently 45 mph, and the Virgin Islands are expecting 3-6 inches of rain by this system.
The Virgin Islands are still under tropical storm watch at this time. On the other hand, the Governor office and ports in St John is still closed and will remain closed until the coastguard clears the area to be open.
In addition, government offices and schools will open Wednesday on St. Thomas and St. Croix to continue normal function.
As of now there is no curfew in place and the main threat is still heavy rains by tropical storm Karen. Lastly, the National Guard and Vitema
—the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency — are ready to respond in the event conditions change.
