We have another election coming up and maybe it’s not getting as much attention as our one did this past fall.
But it is just as important according to those at the Election System and community members advocating for this vote coming up at the end of March. So here’s what you need to know.
This all started as a grassroots initiative by the St. Croix Government Retirees to split up the territory’s 15 senators into nine district senators and six at-large senators.
Advocates hope it will increase both representation and accountability.
The initiative would also impose district residency requirements.
Thursday was the final day to for voters to register at election system locations.
Deputy Supervisor Kevermay Douglas said some voters have been saying they didn’t know too much about this special election or that there was even one happening.
“We do have early voting which is going to be from March 16-22 and that is territory wide, St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John at all of our election system offices and early voting will be from 9am to 6pm. The absentee voting process has already opened. That lasted for anyone that wants us to mail out an absentee ballot to them,” Douglas said.

We’ll be continuing coverage of this election through into early voting beginning on March 16 then through to the voting date March 30.
Douglas said there hasn’t been an uptick in registrations.
The numbers she says have remained relatively the same in terms of those coming out to register.
